Jamyong Singye is a master Thangka painter in the Karma Gardri style of Tibetan art.
A former Tibetan Buddhist monk in India for 27 years and the attendant for V. V. Kalu Rinpoche, he studied under Master Gega lama in Darjeeling, where he gained a deep understanding of the Karma Gardri tradition and created exquisite pieces. Singye’s work is featured in collections around the world, and many revered figures, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, H. H. Karma, and H. H. Vajradhara Tai Situpa, have recognized his master of this meditative art.
Singye shares his great knowledge of Tibetan art by teaching, lecturing, and consulting. He restores and preserves ancient Thangkas and murals according to the authentic Tibetan traditions. Faithfully carrying on the Karma Gardri lineage, he has been teaching in the San Francisco Bay Area and all over the world since 1985.
Through devotion, study, painting, teaching, publishing, and producing, Singye has dedicated himself to preserving Tibetan Buddhist sacred art. His works include The Sacred Thangka That Speaks to You (Acorn International, Taiwan, 2014) and The Tibetan Art Coloring Book (Harry N. Abrams, New York, 1999). He also published the defining two-volume set Principles of Tibetan Art by Gega Lama (sponsored by the Library of Congress, New Delhi, India, 1983).
Singye continues his lifelong work of preserving Tibetan Buddhist art by inviting all people to find the Buddha within themselves with the aid of the Sacred Thangka.
